The Zero Emission Network supports the global campaign to reduce humanity's net greenhouse gas emissions to zero and below. It is an independent alliance of groups, providing opportunities to share ideas, link campaigns and support each other. Environmental, sporting, social, religious or community groups around the world who understand the need to move to zero emission are invited to consider joining the network. The Network provides some insights into what zero emission mean to different people:
- Zero emission is the general phase used to cover any of the following definitions, including 'absolute' zero emission or the level of emission associated with nuclear power or carbon capture and storage (CCS) if used by mining, nuclear or coal industry.
- Zero emission is the general phase used to cover any of the following definitions, including 'absolute' zero emission or the level of emission associated with nuclear power or carbon capture and storage (CCS) if used by mining, nuclear or coal industry.
- Net zero emission, means reducing emissions to net by offsetting. Usually implies a significant effort has been made to reduce emission but not always enough so offsets are used.
- Near zero emission - close to zero emission, implying a 95-99% reduction on previous standards of emissions.
- Zero emission minus, involves reducing emissions to a point where net emissions are reduced below zero by either natural or human assisted sequestration in a given context.
Zero minus fast - the goal of achieving zero emission minus as fast as possible, in a global or national context.
